Viewing I'll Be Me is akin to watching a tightrope act -- breathtakingly exhilarating -- but also agitating, as one fears for the fall

I still haven't read all the articles Siblis posted the last few days. But, I loved reading the article from Rolling Stone. And watching the exclusive video clip at the end with Steve Martin and Keith Urban.

A more in-depth view from The New York Times posted after the opening of I'll Be Me on the 24th of October:

This review is notable in that it includes very personal (and very heartbreaking) quotes from Glen's long time collaborator, Jimmy Webb:

Mr. Webb also appears in the film, but he said has not yet seen it and is not sure when, or even if, he will. "It’s too personal, to be frank, too painful," he said.

"In a very real sense, Glen the artist, the virtuoso and true master of so many aspects of musicality, in many ways that Glen is gone," he added. "And I say that as a caress and not as a dismissal. The sense of loss is so complete that it’s difficult for me to find the words."

Mr. Webb added: “It’s a curious feeling, difficult and poignant, when you reach that tipping point in the relationship where a person no longer recognizes you. I think that’s very difficult. I really wish I could go over and see him and play some songs. Really.”

I hope that Mayo Clinic scene hasn't been cut, Randy.
In the version that was shown in April at the Nashville Film Festival, it appears in the beginning of the film and really sets up what we, the audience, are about to see: Glen's diagnosis of Alz’s and how he and his family handle it.
I am not concerned about the different versions we are hearing about, possibly this independent film’s production team was tightening up the film.
Director Keach mentioned in April that the doc had just been completed a few weeks prior to opening at the festival. So, at that point, the doc was finished but possibly not exactly “tightened up” or finalized to their complete satisfaction.
Almost every scene was powerful to me, although there was one scene in the premiere version that I saw in April that could be cut, I think. I’d be interested if it was cut from the version you saw, Randy. In this scene, Ashley is giving a tour of the Goodbye Tour bus, pointing out sleeping quarters, where she keeps her banjo, points out that they have a refrigerator on the bus and opens its door to show its contents. This scene seemed a little like filler footage to me, then later I thought that this (very brief) scene does give a viewer a good idea of what it was like to be on the road for about 18 months, living with the bare necessities for travel.
I would suggest seeing the doc in the theatre now as part of the October 24th kickoff – just because it may have been edited again since you last saw it. (I will be seeing it again on November 9th.) Hopefully, the DVD will include bonus material -- scenes that were edited out or scenes that didn’t make it into the film.
If I’ll Be Me is released to public television viewing, streaming, and/or cable, might this version be different/edited, too?
Based on the Ryman footage we are seeing in the film and on fandango.com and from information that James Keach shared with me in April, it's possible that a second DVD will be released of the Ryman concert in Nashville.

Yeppers, Thanks Siblis for that link as I don't remember seeing the part where he tells the joke to the technician in the preview I went to. I am sure hoping that the DVD will contain much bonus footage and also I have a question. At 58 , I don't go to the movie theatre anymore, I just wait if I know there will be a DVD for that. I strongly suspect I'm not the only one that prefers this. I went to the advance showing which is much different to me and I will definitely say if not available on DVD I would make a visit to a theatre.

So the question is , what about you? Movie theatre, advance showing , DVD or all or more than one?

Thanks for postings these new links about I'll Be Me, Siblis! It's wonderful to share the journey of this documentary here on the forums.

The scene at the beginning of this clip is an emotional one to watch for me. Seeing Glen at the Mayo Clinic.
And yet--it is so endearing when he tells one of his long time funny lines to the clinic technician. For me, this scene is what is meant by "grace under fire". It represents much of the documentary.
