Re: I'll Be Me - Oscar Nomination?

I'll Be Me has been nominated for a Satellite Award by the International Press Academy!

But the bad news is, I'll Be Me has not even made the shortlist for documentaries that can be nominated for an Oscar...

A great article and a very heartwarming picture. Certainly a moment to treasure, especially for Ashley.

Glen Campbell’s Alzheimer’s film strikes chord with former Tampa legislator
Glen Campbell, the “Rhinestone Cowboy,” won nine Grammy Awards, sold over 45 million records, hosted his own television variety show and starred alongside John Wayne in “True Grit.”
Yet Kim Campbell, wife of the 78-year-old country star, said he considers his final career achievement to be his greatest — showing the public his struggles with Alzheimer’s disease in a new documentary film.

Thanks, Randy! So, you have made this confession, too.
Same here, in fact, the article reminded me of me!
I guess many of us are around the same age--all impressed at a young age by Glen Campbell.

Read that review Dee. Indeed a nice review and confession I have made myself. Glanced at his website but don't guess I know him. Phillip Martin. Guessing we are around the same age tho.

Thanks

A Campbell Fan Remembers

Finally! A marvelous review of "I'll Be Me" with a fan's confession (I think most of us here can relate to it) is now fully available online. It was posted online after the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival at which "I'll Be Me" was shown.
The reviewer writes:
You are most susceptible to the lures of popular culture when you are around 12 years old. That is when you begin to attune yourself to its rhythms, to begin to crack its codes, to develop your own particular taste signature.

I was 10 years old when The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour went on the air in January 1969. I was 13 years old when it went off the air in June 1972. So maybe it is not surprising that Glen Campbell had a real and lasting influence on me. It was while watching Glen Campbell that I first realized I wanted to play guitar.

He was not first musician I'd watched on TV; I'd seen Porter Wagoner and the Wilburn Brothers; I had consumed the Beatles and Elvis Presley. When Johnny Cash's show came on the air a few months after Campbell's I faithfully watched it too. But maybe even more than I want to admit, Glen Campbell is important to me.

Thanks for this video link of Glen and Steve, Randy!
Steve's voice is better than most contemporary country singers, I think!
I could listen to him and Glen sing all day.
