"Infomercial"! haha!

Infomercials are all about marketing a product (such as a battery-operated onion peeler). lol

The entire Good Times Again program was not shown, Cowpoke. Also, it was broadcasted in segments over 90 minutes. Perhaps a good majority of GTA was shown. Not all.

These pledges are not for profit.

From Wikipedia: "Although the federal government of the United States, primarily through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), and corporate underwriting provide some money for public broadcasting organizations like National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), they are largely dependent on program fees paid by their member stations. These stations require funding in turn from listeners and viewers (as well as local corporate sponsors) for not only these fees, but also other daily operating costs, and stage regular pledge drives in an attempt to persuade their audiences to contribute donations."

My local PBS station tried to do away with these pledge drives some years back, relying on viewers to donate freely. This approach didn't work; contributions went way down.

The blogger's review (below) is good, isn't it?

I thought it was very special for friends of the Campbells, Laura Savini Webb (PBS host/producer) and Jimmy Webb, to share their personal stories about Glen Campbell and family during this pledge program.
Also, the gifts in recognition for donating were awesome!

And here's another blog by someone who apparantly watched the Good Times Again program. He refers to it as an infomercial, is that right Dee? Does seems a little strange to show the whole program and then try and sell the DVD. Or do they only show selected clips?

Anyway his quote caught my eye:
[The Goodtime Hour] ... was an oasis of wholesomeness in a tumultuous time.

I won't keep you all in suspense too long, Cowpoke.
Will try to write down some of Jimmy Webb's commentary to post here. :)

Thanks for your detailed description and for keeping track of this. I would have loved to see this. Great to hear how Jimmy and his wife are supporting Glen.

You are welcome, Cowpoke. Following is more information about this special event!

I can’t recommend American Public Television’s broadcast of “Glen Campbell Good Times Again” highly enough!
“Good Times Again” is airing this month (August) at different times and dates depending on each public television station’s schedule. (Some stations may not be broadcasting it at all.) This 90-minute program is hosted by Laura Savini Webb (Jimmy Webb’s wife) with special guest Jimmy Webb.

To my surprise, the “Good Times Again” DVD (see posts below) is not being offered as a gift for pledging as part of the fundraising drive for this special broadcast. Instead, one can choose among these gifts: CD-“Glen Campbell Greatest Hits” (Capitol Records, 2009), DVD-“Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me”, or both items.

If you own or have watched “Good Times Again”, you may still want to catch this pledge program. Why? First of all, during the pledge breaks, both Laura and Jimmy provide wonderful stories about Glen Campbell, his family, the Goodbye Tour, and more. Jimmy also shares some of the same stories that he told at his “Jimmy Webb: The Glen Campbell Years” concert held recently in Dover, Delaware. One of these stories, a funny one because of the way Jimmy tells this story, is about “Honey Come Back” and why Glen never performed this song live.

The way in which Jimmy describes the tremendous support of Glen’s family on the Goodbye Tour brought tears to my eyes.

Also during the pledge breaks, film clips taken directly from Glen’s documentary are shown. I was “dee-lighted” that seeing these scenes on my 21” television screen looked and sounded great! I am looking forward to watching the complete doc at home soon.

Laura and Jimmy’s outstanding support of this program about Glen’s musical and film career makes for a very, very special tribute to Glen Campbell and his legacy.

I hope you all (in the U.S.) will be able to watch “Good Times Again”, too.

Dee

GLEN CAMPBELL: GOOD TIMES AGAIN (2nd release) -- broadcasting on American public television in August!

Check your local listings for programming dates and times or visit:
http://www.aptonline.org/catalog.nsf/vL ... nd+release" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Glen Campbell: Good Times Again" was originally released on DVD by Time Life in 2007. It contains a selection of solo performances and duets by Glen Campbell taken from The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. In June 2015, Laura Savini Webb and Jimmy Webb taped interviews for this special, so even if the video content is the same, it should be interesting to watch the new interviews!

Please post here if you have seen this new broadcast already; would love to hear about it!

Hi arlw,
That is a great DVD. I have a copy and really enjoyed it. I wish they would release the whole Talk of the Town show from 1972. That would be a great DVD as well. The quality seems fantastic from the clips I have seen so would be a wonderful addition to the DVD collections I have. Here's hoping with all the interest at the moment they may decide it would be commercially viable at the moment.
