Brad,

In the mid 60's Glen played Mosrite guitars, both acoustic and electric. If you go to youtube and look up Glen & Universal Soldier, you'll see him play one on Shindig (unplugged!). I don't know the model number.

He stopped playing the acoustic when he switched to Ovations, but he would still pull out the electric 6 string occassionally (he played it in the early-mid 80's once in a while). They are now very valuable guitars on the used guitar market.

Glad you like the 1537. I've gone back to it and use it almost all the time now. Try it with Elixir mediums, the 80/20 nanos. Gives it a warm ring.

Hello Paul, Can you tell me what model of guitar that is on the "Gentle On My Mind" album cover ? I know it is a Mosrite 12 string, but I sure would like to see what the rest of it looks like. Mr. Campbell is looking dapper in his "sizzlin 60's" corduroy jacket but all we see of the instrument is the neck and headstock.
Also thank's for the tip on Ovation's 1537. I purchased one in sunburst this past fall and couldn't be happier. It is gorgeous and sounds like a Grand Piano

Recently Glen Campbell released “Ghost on the Canvas”, his farewell tour album. We were honored to have him playing not one, but two of our Waterstone instruments. In the video “Ghost on the Canvas”, you’ll see a Splash Carnaby and a Powder Blue Cumulus. We are planning on reissuing the Cumulus model to our current line. Thanks to all who worked on the video and a special thanks to Kii Arens.

Brad, a member of the Ovation Fan Club is selling this http://www.ovationfanclub.com/cgi-bin/u ... p=1#000010" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . It's a 1537 that looks to be in great shape. Of all the guitars I have, my 1537 is the one that gets the most compliments as to appearance and sound.

Paul, I've been using the D'Addario EXP 16 Light's, .012-.053. I am a big fan of the 1627 reissues. That extra light colored spruce top is very easy to look at.
You are correct about my 1627 having a lower volume unplugged. Im not complaining,it is a great guitar and I would never part with it. However I am in the market for another Ovation and would like more acoustic volume. (I am unplugged 90% of the time) I am pretty sure I want to stay with a wood top and non cutaway. I know that this narrows the field quite a bit,but would you have any suggestions at what a person might take a good look at ? Anyone else is welcome to chime in as well Thank You, Brad

A braced top. Great guitar. Not a lot of volume just acoustically, but great tone. And that wonderful classic Ovation look. I've got one of the reissues from 2006.

What kind and gauge strings to you use?

Thank's Paul

Yes , I have visited both of these site's that you mentioned. They are both very informative and interesting. Looking at that Ovation tribute site reminds me of looking through the Sears Christmas Wishbook catalog when I was a kid.
I agree that these Ovation Guitar's definitely do not all sound the same. They do however, all seem to possess that ,kind of warm, Golden, smooth, what I call a Campbellesque tone. I have a 1627 GC model that I was lucky enough to have gotten autographed by the man himself , in June of last year. What a thrill and honor that was.
I am looking to buy another Ovation now , I think it's going to be a 1537.
