Hi Mike, well thanks for letting me know you found some "new" songs (with a little help from me). Those two songs really knock me out. Glen sounds positively inspired singing them. And he is hitting some in very high notes on "Radio" without slipping into falsetto.
Only shows that Glen always got a kick when he got hold of some good new songs. Just like us when we hear Glen singing them.

Yes Cowpoke. Of course Bill wrote that one as well. Trust you to find the one I missed :D . I actually love that song and of course have the CD.
BTW I forgot to thank you for telling me about the new songs on the Jesus and me CD "Sure as the sun" and "turn up the radio". I really appreciated that info and got the CD right away. I love it when I find a new song which I really like and if it is Glen singing it, that is just wonderful. Thanks again Cowpoke for helping out us lesser mortals..

That is a very nice list. I always thought that when Glen, in 1974, was trying to get back to recording really good original songs, his first try was with the songs of Billy Graham. He recorded both Houston (the album) and Reunion at the same time by the way.

There is one addition to the list I can think of now... New Snow On The Roof, a b-side to a rare Christmas single. Not so long ago it was released on this CD.

Hey Cowpoke, that was close. I have found 10 listed as follows.
1) That's not home
2) Lonely my lonely friend
3)Pave your way into tomorrow
4) We all pull the load
5) Give me back that old familiar feeling
6)Beautiful love song
7)If I were loving you
8) Honestly loved
9)Lovelight
10)Record collector's dream
If I have missed any please let me know. I hadn't realised some of these were Bill's songs Glen could have done an album of just Bill's songs. Perhaps called it Reunion other something like that :D

Yes that is true Mike. So how many songs did Billy write for Glen then. About a dozen?

Hi Cowpoke, To be honest I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing the video. It seems to me Bill was under the radar a bit as regards his song writing abilities, that's why it was a wonderful thing to have Glen cover his work. I am sure like Jimmy he must have felt very pleased to have access to a wonderful voice to bring soul to his lyrics and life to his melodies through Glen's musical talents. A DJ once said after hearing about the passing of an artist. "you never really appreciate someone fully until it's too late." I think that's true of many of us. It is only now I am exploring Bill's back catalogue of work, which I should have done well before now. Still he has left his own legacy in his writing.

Hi Mike, welcome back! ;) So glad to hear from you again. I agree that Billy wrote some very good songs for Glen. I think my favourite is Honestly Loved. But Record Collectors Dream is a great song too. Did you know one of Billy's songs was covered by Sir Cliff Richard?

Of course you did! :D

Hi Guys, Haven't been in touch for a while, but I was just reading a few of your posts. It is sad to read of the passing of Bill Graham. I never met him, as he wasn't part of Glen's band when I got to see Glen live, but I have heard him talk about how he loved Glen and really appreciated that Glen recorded many of his compositions over the years. Not forgetting the song my youngest son always loved to hear "Record collectors' dream". I remember it was on the B side of Glen's Country boy track and I played it several times on the jukebox. in our local pub. I am not sure I wasn't even old enough to be in there, but I didn't have the record so I could only hear it there. Later I got a scratchy single of my own and of course I now have the song on the Rhinestone Cowboy CD release. Still love the the track.
"A beautiful love" song was another great song Bill wrote and it struck me that he seemed to compose songs which made full use of Glen's vocal range, much like Jimmy of course.
Rest in peace Bill.

Rest in Peace Bill Graham

Post by jay »

Bill C. Graham passed away in Nashville on Monday from what appears to be surgery complications. From 1968 to 1977 he was Glen's bassist & played in most every Goodtime Hour there was, he was on Glen's Music Show In England, toured with him, as well as played bass on many of Glen's albums. He penned "Pave Your Way Into Tomorrow", which Glen closed every Goodtime show with and was included on "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Album".

Billy was a friend of this forum. I made contact with him through Facebook years ago and he always answered any question I would throw his way. He regularly would send a random PM ... "hows it going". He was a good ol Texas boy, having been raised in Brownwood. Another musician who started out poor and worked his way to the top. God bless, Billy. Rest in Peace.
