Oscar Doc Shortlist: A Brutal Year to Have to Select Just 15 Finalists

This article puts things in perspective a little. About a couple of wonderful documentaries (amongst which "James Keach's Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me (Area 23a), the most impressive film about Alzheimer's Disease that I've ever seen") that were not on the shortlist, this journalist writes:

"To be honest, I feel a little sick knowing how hard these filmmakers worked on their projects and how good their films were."

I agree totally Cowpoke,
As Dee, said who has even heard of some of these films that are on the short list. This I am afraid has been the trouble in the past. Glen has been overlooked and under rated many times over the years and this is now another of those moments.
It seems they don't take into account the high level of regard many of the public hold for Glen and his talent.
I still think the film will still makes it mark though and become a classic in its own right.

The fact that the movie didn't even make the shortlist, is what makes this a little hard to swallow. No Oscar, okay, no nomination, okay, but not even on the shortlist of 15?

It is certainly disappointing for James Keach and all those involved in the film not to be recognised for their great work, but there are other awards which it may pick up further down the line.
However when all is said and done, the impact of the film can not be denied for all those who watched this unfolding story of a music icon. I think its legacy will go on long after many of those films on the list are forgotten. Time will tell I am sure.
Lets not be too down hearted.There is still a lot of good that has come from all this.

What distinguishes the films and filmmakers that made the cut from those that did not? No one can say for sure, but it's quite likely that the ones that made the cut simply were watched by more people.

Cowpoke, I am totally crushed right now, I can't believe "I'll Be Me" didn't make the cut for an Academy Award nomination.
This is just not right. All the reviews have been outstanding, right?
I had expected to see "Life Itself" on the list, the doc about Roger Ebert.
The other films don't even ring a bell for me.

The Satellite Award nomination is an honor; this is really exciting news.

I wonder when the Academy Award nominations will be announced for Best Song?
