Well, there is another shot of getting this 45 so I will go another route! Hopefully I can take this off my "Bucket List"--time will tell. I am not sure Glen played on this record with The City Zu as it was 1966-67 time frame, but it would be nice to obtain such a rare record as Glen was a co-writer and is listed right on the front!

This has been on my needed list for MANY years! I just found one and bought it-don't have it yet but it's on its way and I can't wait. I love to cross off things that I have been searching for!

September 1967, Glen did a session for a band called "City Zu", resulting in a 45 called Give a Little Bit / I'll Find Another on Columbia Records # 44342. Interesting about this release is that the song “Give a Little Bit” was written by Glen Campbell and Jerry Fuller, who was also the arranger. When I heard a sample of the 45 I heard Glen Campbell on guitar so one could also say that he might have also played on this too! The one I am getting is a PROMO copy from a radio station!

Here one day and Gone, Gone, Gone, the next! The person selling this on ebay can't locate the 45! He is sending payment back--I would rather have the record--In all the years on ebay I never had this happen before. It didn't sell the first time so he re-listed it and I bought it. Then last night I email him to see where it is:his reply was-just received payment but can't locate where the item is!!! I won't be dealing with this bozo anymore! Guess the needed list will once again have this back on there! This was his reply again, hopefully for the last time:

Dear arlw,

I am very sorry about this. What actually happened is in the course of listing the 2,500+ auctions, we accidentally listed about 100 auctions that we sold a year ago. It was an unfortunate database mistake.
IF THEY SOLD IT, WHY WAS IT LISTED!!????

I love the quote from Gary Pike of The Lettermen. "Not only was he a Beach Boy but he was also a Letterman (at Least in the studio!)"

Harry James and His Western Friends:- this is an LP on Dot Records-released in 1966. Just bought this so waiting for it to arrive. I couldn't believe that Glen was on here-how awesome!!!

This is from the unusual 1966 album by Harry James called "Harry James and His Western Friends." Harry plays "Mexicali Rose" supported as always by his amazing rhythm section, Jack Perciful on piano, Red Kelly on bass, and Louis Bellson on drums. The guitar licks are being played by Glen Campbell who began his career as a much sought after session player. Jack Perciful is especially amazing as his piano work sounds much like country legend Floyd Cramer and Glen Campbell had a ball recording this as this was winding down his session days!

Dee,
I actually had a ball going through that stuff so thank you! There is a lot of Paul Peterson material out there, Momas and Papas, Glen played on the first 2 lps of The Monkees, Wayne Newton, Red Roses and Danke Shane (sp) , Merle Haggard, and a never ending list!

Arlw, you are AWESOME! I had foolishly thought that I had found an early GC session album that no one else would have been aware of...so not true! Thank you for confirming The Instrumental Sound album and also one other by Hank Thompson with Glen Campbell!

Many thanks, too, for the other rarities that you just posted. I appreciate that you share this hard-to-find information with us.

3 more rare 45's

Dorsey Burnette Teen 45- Reprise Records-DJ Copy on the white label. Made in the U.S.A. One Of The Lonely/Where’s The Girl – R-20,208-(2106) / R-20,208-(2107). The side that contains “One of the Lonely” was written by Jimmy Bowen and Glen Campbell. American Music, Inc. BMI-Both sides are produced by Jimmy Bowen. Dorsey Burnette is the singer on both tracks but Glen was given credit for co-writing that one song. This is a Promotional Copy-Not For Sale. It is Arranged and Conducted by Jack Nitzsche. No date is listed but in doing further research, this record was released on August 24th, 1963 and according to the sources noted, this was his final release on this Reprise Record Company as he moved onto others. 1963 was Glen’s co-writing days and also studio session work. Rare Promo 45 with Glen’s name on the label.

Dack & Dirk Rambo – “When Am I Gonna Be Loved” / “Why’d You Leave, Geneive”- This 45 is on the original ZING RECORDS Label. The release date of this recording is 1960. It is a Jerry Fuller Production. Zing Records –Z-1001. Side A which is “When Am I Gonna Be Loved” is written by Glen Campbell. American Music B.M.I. (2-956-1). The other flip side is written by Jerry Fuller-Four Star B.M.I. (2-9561-2). The songs are done by Dack and Dirk Rambo-this is an extremely rare Rockabilly recording on the ZING Label. This happens to be the first Zing Label I have ever come across. The record is in terrific condition considering it is 48 years old! Great record with Glen Campbell as a writer! Glen Campbell was only 24 years old when he wrote this song.

Domino/Little Lonely – This is an original released 45 by Chad Allen on the SMASH Label from 1961. A Division of Mercury Records Corp. S-1720. What makes this 45 rare is Glen Campbell is credited on the “Little Lonely” side along with Jerry Jackson. They wrote this together! It is put out by American Music, Inc. Some of the American Music Credits back in the early 60’s were Campbell-Naylor! (Jerry Naylor). This 45 is in excellent condition considering its 46 years ago that this was released. There is another Chad Allen release of these same two tracks and it is on the LAMA Label. The number is 7779-mid 1961-very rare to locate. This 45 listed is quite rare also, especially with Glen Campbell’s name credited on here for writing the track! Interesting info: The Jerry Jackson half of the songwriting credit, I am reasonably sure, is the one and only Jerry Naylor!

45 studio work: just a few:

Annie In Her Granny/Something To Remember You By – The Four Preps. This 45 was arranged by Lincoln Mayorga and Glen Larson. This is an original release on the orange and yellow swirled Capitol Label. Produced by Al De Lory. The release date of this is 1966 with Glen Campbell on guitar doing his thing as this is his later part of his studio session days before going solo. He is on the side “Annie In Her Granny.” Capitol Records # 5609. These guys try to sound like The Beach Boys - like on this 45, produced by Al De Lory. Glen Campbell backing on the rocker. Nice studio work by Glen.

The Lonely Surfer/Song For A Summer Night – Jack Nitzsche. This 45 was released in September of 1963. Glen Campbell is on this record doing studio guitar work at the tender age of 26! This record being keyed in today makes this record 48 years old. It is on the Reprise Records Label and is an Original release. Made in the USA. Produced by Jimmy Bowen who Glen Campbell also used later on. R-20,202. (2100/2101). This 45 record is marked an unbelievable 98 cents! This record is an instrumental recording with Glen on guitar! Of course the age of this has changed since it was bought!

Lou Rawls – Capitol Records-purple label-American Music, Inc. BMI-Produced by Nick Venet. # 4669. Lou Rawls does “Nine Pound Hammer/Above My Head.” Glen Campbell is the Session Leader on the track “Nine Pound Hammer.” This track was written by Merle Travis.(45-36227/45-36658). This would be listed in Studio Session Days for Glen Campbell. Nice 45. No date is listed on the record but in doing research this recording came out on Capitol Records with Glen Campbell on guitar back in 1961. This record is 49 years old so when Glen recorded this track with Lou Rawls, he was a mere 25 at the time. Great studio session leader track for Glen.

Dee,
That's falls into the category of "Studio Session Works" for Glen. I have that LP as well. Here is my write-up:

The Instrumental Sound of HANK THOMPSON’S BRAZOS VALLEY BOYS, COUNTRYPOLITAN - ARRANGEMENTS BY AMERICA’S NO. 1 WESTERN SWING BAND - This album is on the DOT label DLP-25978. This is a very rare release and was put out in the early 60’s. There are 12 songs on this LP. Hank Thompson and his band had a little help from Merle Travis and Glen Campbell on the guitar. Glen Campbell is acknowledged on the back jacket. The label is black and the word DOT is written in red. DOT Records is a division of famous music corporation, New York. The record was Produced by, Joe Allison, Nereco Productions. Arranged and conducted by Hank Levine. Musical Guitars that were used in the making of this album were GIBSONS. The date I had found at the time this was bought was early to mid 60's. I have a slit in the jacket and I believe it is a promo LP!

Here is another one Dee:

THE COUNTRYPOLITAN SOUND OF HANK THOMPSON’S BRAZOS VALLEY BOYS – INSTRUMENTALS BY AMERICA’S NO.1 SWING BAND. This LP is from 1967 in MONO. It is still factory sealed and marked 59 cents! This was a closeout price sticker. It is on the Warner Brothers Label, WB-1679. Glen Campbell and Merle Travis are featured guests on this great 1967 self-titled LP and Hank Thompson sits in on rhythm guitar. Glen Campbell is acknowledged on the back jacket-“The concept of this album is so startlingly different that you’ll have to hear it to believe it. It goes something like this… Take the Brazos Valley Boys and make them all soloists, individually and as a group, and back them with some of the finest Hollywood musicians around, add violins, harp, a mellow trumpet, and Hank Levine’s inventive arrangements; then have the muti-talented Merle Travis fly in from Nashville to provide his own special guitar magic, put him side by side with fleet-fingered Glen Campbell and you’ve got an aggregation that cannot be matched anywhere.” This LP was made/printed in the USA. This record is very rare and to have it still sealed is amazing. 59 cents!!! That's amazing but I spent much more than that marked price tag.
