One of the big hits that Glen's guitar helped shaping: "The Unicorn" by The Irish Rovers!

PROLIFIC EARLY RECORDING SESSIONS HELPED PUT CAMPBELL IN SPOTLIGHT -- Mark Marymont
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (Little Rock, AR) - Tuesday, June 11, 1996
Section: 8E, Page: 8E

Glen Campbell played guitar on some of the biggest hits of the '60s. Here are some of his favorite sessions:

"I was on some Dean Martin sessions and he was just like you saw him on TV. I don't think he was a very convincing private detective in a movie, but he was good in the studio."

"One session I really enjoyed was `The Unicorn' by the Irish Rovers. I produced that, wrote the music lead sheets and got the musicians on it. That was a memorable session."

"I'll tell you the Nat `King' Cole sessions I did were really special, during his `Lazy Crazy Days of Summer' period. I played mainly 12-string guitar on all that stuff and it was great to sit down before we recorded and just jam with Nat and all these wonderful studio players."

"I was on a lot of that Jan and Dean stuff, like `Honolulu Lulu' and `The Little Old Lady From Pasadena.' Jan did all the arrangements for that, he was really impressive. He would do all that while Dean was out playing around."

"The very last session I did was `All I Ever Need is You.' It was with Ray Charles, not Sonny and Cher. It was for his album, `The Volcanic Action of My Soul.' "

Arlw......I was not trying to sell you anything, I was trying to make a TRADE with you which I do quite a bit with other collectors of Glen's Video performances. I also listed that show that I have in my collection becuse that could be the show that everyone is talking about with Wanda Jackson.

Siblis,

Actually I was surprised that this post from you wasn't deleted, as the MODS don't ever let us post material like what you asked for on here, as it's the Glen Campbell Forum, not a bootlegg making CD site. I can't do that, sorry. It is a Promo copy and I know they are rare and were never for sale and would like to keep it that way.

I too have a lot of Black and White material on DVD's, from the late 50's through the early 60's. So I will pass on the great offer but I thank you just the same.

Dee as far as I know there were more than 13 episodes of Star Route produced. It was a show like Shindig! They are all over everywhere!

Info on Barbara Fairchild:
Barbara Fairchild Stories – 1995 Chapel Music Group Inc., Nashville, Tennessee. This is a religious CD for Barbara and Glen Campbell is on one of these songs with her. It is called “JEZEBEL.” He also co- wrote this song with her, and appears courtesy of New Haven Records. Inside the insert by the song, it says “Jezebel, words and music by Barbara Fairchild and Glen Campbell.” . This CD is made in the USA. Distributed by CHORDANT DISTRIBUTION. CMD-5305. (2438-25305-2). This is a rare CD with Glen co-writing as well as singing.

This one listed below would be hard to find as this was a transfer from a reel to reel!

Glen Campbell – LEE JEANS SUPERJAM CONCERT – NBC AUDIO RECORDING SERVICE. Program Number – LJC #2. The Host is Don Imus, Guest is Glen Campbell , and the Broadcast date is July 14, 1974. This is a great concert converted from a reel of 7 ½ I.P.S. Glen Campbell – Lee Jeans Super Jam Concert in Louisville, Kentucky, Airdate July 14, 1974. Total running time on this CD is 52:50. Glen does 15 tracks on this concert including a medley of 6 songs on track # 11. On # 12, he introduces the band. Some songs are Dueling Banjos, I Believe In Music, Delta Dawn, Behind Closed Doors, Teddy Bear, Proud Mary, and many more. You could call this a promotional CD.. Wish I had the reel to reel!!!!

Thank you all for checking the info about Wanda Jackson / Glen on Wanda's recording sessions / Star Route!

So, the mystery remains: on what show was Wanda performing with Glen playing guitar in the stage band? And when was it broadcasted?

Arlw, there were more than 13 episodes of Star Route produced, correct? Glen is on 12 of the total number of shows? (Videobeat.com has Shindig episodes but not Star Route.)

Okay, here's what I (think I) know.

"Alabama Jubilee" is the name of the song performed by Sonny James on the tv show Star Route (with Glen singing and clapping along). Star Route, which was recorded in Canada and Los Angeles alternatively, featured a major country artist in every episode and Sonny James was one of them. I don't know of a Star Route episode with Wanda Jackson so I think that footage might be from another show, but I don't know which one!

Glen sang on Jezebel, a song from a 1995 album called Stories by Barbara Fairchild.

The July 14, 1974 concert in Kentucky is completely new to me! Would love to hear more details about that one, Arlw!
