little lou - john ashley ( capeheart 1961... eddie cochran guitar... not strictly a rockabilly record... cochran shows he had more chops than any other early guitar rocker...

Everywhere I look comes up with Eddie Cochran. It's possible this recording was done earlier and then they released it afterward??

Another guy to check would be Gene Vincent/James Burton

Thanks Arlw. Could it be Eddie? The record is from 1961 and Eddie died april 1960. And Capehart 5006 is only two releases before Glen's own "Death Valley" (Capehart 5008), which is dated approx. May 1961. I'm not saying it's impossible, because sometimes they (re)used old session material, but it doesn't seem likely to me?

JOHN ASHLEY - LITTLE LOU / I NEED YOUR LOVIN' - CAPEHART Label

''CAPEHART'' RECORDS WAS OWNED BY JERRY CAPEHART - EDDIE COCHRAN CONNECTION!!!

A-SIDE = FABULOUS SO=CAL ROCKABILLY STROLLER - TUFF FRANTIC VOCALS & HOT COOKIN' BAND!!!!

B-SIDE = NEW ORLEANS SOUNDING TEEN ROCK 'N' ROLL STROLLER with GUITAR, SAX & PIANO - DOUBLE WHAMMY STROLLERS!

In listening to this 45, I believe it's Eddie Cochran, not Glen Campbell. Right era, but wrong guy.

Wouldn't doubt it a bit as they sure collaborated together. Sounds like it could easily be Glen or even James Burton. I do not know though.

Question for you guys...

Is Glen on this great little rocker?

"Little Lou" by John Ashley on Capehart records.

Great guitar solo, but.... is it Glen? Arlw, do you know?

Thanks!

It would be awesome if your DJ friend makes a CD of Glen's demos. Where do I sign up for it? :-)

It would be so great for instance to hear some of the demos Glen made for Elvis Presley!

Thanks for the information! Unbelievable find, this.

This is a picture of one of those acetates Arlw emailed me.

Cowpoke,
Those songs that I have on mp3 format from him/DJ are no doubt the one and only Glen Campbell. He's still going through all the acquired material.
This is what he wrote to me-

"Once I cross out of the 10" platters (mostly older) and into the 7 & 8" ones, there will likely be a lot more Glen.

Perhaps enough for a CD collection? Would that interest any fans?" I told him a BIG YES! Being that he has just the one of a kind recording, there is no way that he would sell them! So by making/creating a CD of this would really be awesome!

The major point of these recordings-"name of the songs fine to post, just not the audio!"

Here's what one of them looks like - many are on different labels from different studios. The common point is that are songs that Sid Wayne had a hand in writing - he was mostly a lyrics guy. You will love this too-

"I am still working out what to do with all this stuff. Nearly 300 acetates in the lot, and I've already identified 40+ that were songs that were pitched to Elvis, and verified that he cut about 20 of them. I am considering putting together and Elvis' Sketchbook type release - of songs that were demo's written for him.

As for the Glen stuff - didn't know if it would be of interest to the fans or not. He did a lot of work like this and I don't know if they had a clue about this all. He was surprised that I didn't have these, I never heard of them!!

Glad to hear that you thought they were Glen's distinctive voice as well. I can roll out others to you as I come across them for consideration. So when he emails me with the audio, I know right away if it's Glen Campbell/not, which assists him!

He emailed me one picture of one acetate-the problem is some have Glen's name on them and some just have the title and you have to guess! By the way Cowpoke, Glen recorded so many records and did so many studio sessions with so many people that the 1950-1973 mark is probably and most likely correct as told to me by the DJ. See, just when you think you know all about Glen--there is so much more!!
