Thank you so much for your second post here, Lulu. I think it says a lot about Jimmy Webb that his latest tour includes tributes, musically and through storytelling, about Glen. I'm guessing he talks about THE HAIR CUT, THE CAKE, (lol), his relationship with his Dad, maybe meeting Elvis and Frank Sinatra, but his most heartfelt stories seem to be about his long-time friend and collaborator, Glen Campbell. It's amazing to learn how one song (Turn Around, Look at Me) became a shining star and a dream-come-true for Jimmy. Thank God his dream came true!
Thank you again for sharing!

Thanks everyone ! I have seen Jimmy Webb many times at different venues, but this time was different. He spoke about Glen in depth and you could feel the love and respect he has for Glen and how Glen's disease has affected him.
When he was at the CMA tribute he said he hugged Glen and said you did good tonite, its a great show, Glen's reply was "OH, I think I know you, aren't you that guy who wrote Wichita Lineman?"
Needless to say I spent most of the show choked up and crying.
My favorite story was Jimmy telling about the first time he heard Glen's voice on the radio singing Turn Around Look At ME, he got home and borrowed the family car to go to town to buy the single, which he said he played over and over again til it was paper thing, each night praying 'someday please let Glen Campbell record one of my songs' talk about having your dreams come true !!

Hi, Lulu! Thank you so much for sharing the story that Jimmy Webb told about Glen and his fans. It gave me goose bumps to read it! Glen's fans are very special people! Also, I hadn't known that Jimmy had attended any of the Goodbye Tour concerts; what a great friend Jimmy is to GC. I'm so glad you got to see JW in concert.
Good question: why wasn't JW asked to sing M.P. on the Letterman show?!

Hello all, my two cents for what its worth, I enjoyed the performance of Mac Arthur Park on Letterman, wonder why they didnt have Jimmy Webb sing it? Dee, I agree, Will is NO Glen Campbell, but Paul's band with the orchestra was outstanding.I had just seen Jimmy Webb in concert late June, wish I had met up with Erik. His many stories of his times with Glen touched my heart. He said he attended many of the Goodbye tour shows and he said how kind the audiences were to Glen. He told how one of the shows in Australia, Glen had just sung Wichita Lineman and before anyone could stop him, he sang the whole song again. This second time he received a standing ovation accompanied by shouts of ‘sing it again Glen’. Brought tears to my eyes.

A professional orchestra always sounds great and the song Mc'Arthur Park has quite a few changing levels that gives an orchestra a chance to display their diversity. As for the singer it will be better for him if people compare his version to Richard Harris rather than Glen's.
Even Glen didn't re-capture the song in quite the same way as he did in the 70's,though his best later version was probably the PBS concert.

Glad to hear that JW was in the orchestra, as I thought, and also glad he was actually on the show. With a song like that, there is only one person that comes to mind, and that would be the one and only...... Jimmy Webb!
Those high notes are really hard to reach and I remember Glen mentioning that he was glad to reach them in his earlier years and only 1 to times at the most! And, we all know who the greatest guitar player is ... thanks Dee for the info and Eric the Dane too for writing in.
I didn't watch it but I am sure it was a " Really Great Show." I too thought it was nice that David Letterman had them on as he too is leaving soon....I think the icing on the cake is melting!

You were right, Arlw...as Erik the Dane posted, Jimmy played with the orchestra, which was tremendous to hear! Overall, I thought this version was excellent, instrumentally. Wonderful to hear this classic Jimmy Webb song in 2014!
Will Lee: He is no Glen of course. Lee wasn't much of a guitar player here, and he lost his breath and couldn't hit some of the higher notes after climbing up the cake (which just goes to show: you can't have your cake and climb it, too).
Kudos to Dave Letterman for bringing on Jimmy and showcasing MacAurthur Park.

The only thing I can think of is if Jimmy Webb is on here he will just perform along with the Orchestra..... There is no mentioning of him on tonight's show, but that doesn't mean that David Letterman doesn't have something up his sleeve either!!
