Country Singer Glen Campbell Proves Alzheimer's Isn't Stopping Him
The Sunrise Blog
By Tim Watt
June 15, 2015
This isn't the first time music has been credited with aiding common symptoms associated with Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Foundation of American noted that music has a series of beneficial effects on people suffering from memory loss. It may help boost their mood and cause them to be more positive around the people they're with. Music can help facilitate more efficient cognitive function and it may even stimulate poor motor movements, a symptom people deal with in later stages of the disease.

Music involves the motor cortex, and is very simple for the brain to understand, without needing complex cognitive processing, the AFA stated. That's why a person can listen to music while completing a more difficult task, such as driving. With music, people recognize auditory cues that may have been established long ago. So for Campbell, though his memory was fading, his ability to recall how to play music and sing was not lost. The brain also tends to recognize music that it already knows.

Thanks, Randy.
Easy to see why Jerry Fuller and Glen Campbell have been long time friends--with their shared sense of humor!
Love this classic "Phoenix" video, too!

This Washington Times article raises a good discussion: Glen Campbell’s influence will live on long after contemporary ‘legends’ are forgotten This topic could make for a good discussion of the week here.

And Jerry Fuller too,,, just love his comments. And I absolutely love Johnny River's music. Talk about a string of hits.

So for Glen to re-cut Phoenix and add in Al Delory's great arrangement on a Jimmy Webb masterpiece, Glen's perfect vocals, I'm with Jerry Fuller,
"I still wonder to this day if he really did leave Phoenix"

I wanna put up this link again, because it is perfection to me!!!

Amazing, Randy! You found that WL interview with Carol Kaye! :D
Thank you so much for sharing it here! I got goosebumps again listening to her talk about when she first heard WL and also hearing her play the bass guitar intro (starting at 10:26).
Nice follow-up interviews, too, especially with Jimmy Webb.
Thanks again for sleuthing this one down.

Interview with Katie Cole on Life in LA, Music, Guitars and Glenn [sic] Campbell

KC: I got the opportunity to open up some shows for Glen Campbell during his promotion for the Meet Glen Campbell album. It was an incredible journey to not only open up for a legend, but I really learned about how people grew up with his music and how much the songs meant to the audiences. It’s very sad that he has Alzheimer’s disease now, but he always remembered me when I saw him. He’d sing “K-K-K-Katie….” I was able to have this experience again with my Producer Howard playing a role here. He was producing the final album “Ghost on the Canvas” and brought me in to sing on the album. I’d done some backing vocal sessions for him for other albums and he thought I would blend well. I sang all the female parts. I don’t think there was one defining moment that stood out from working / performing with Glen. It was all a learning experience - one I’ll never forget.
